Privacy Policy
Last updated: February 9, 2026
In short: We only process the word you select and the sentence around it. We do not collect personal data, browsing history, or analytics. We do not require an account.
What data we collect
When you select a word on a webpage, the extension sends only two pieces of information to our backend server:
- The selected word or phrase (1 to 4 words)
- The surrounding sentence for context
That's it. We do not collect:
- Your name, email, or any personal identifiers
- The URL of the page you are visiting
- Your browsing history or activity
- Your IP address (not logged by our server)
- Any analytics, telemetry, or usage tracking data
How we use the data
The selected word and sentence are sent to our Cloudflare Worker backend, which forwards them to the Claude AI API (by Anthropic) to generate a contextual explanation. The explanation is returned to the extension and displayed in the tooltip.
The data is processed in real-time and is not stored on our servers. We do not maintain logs of your requests.
Third-party services
We use the following third-party services to operate the extension:
- Cloudflare Workers to host the backend API. Cloudflare may process requests in accordance with their privacy policy.
- Anthropic (Claude API) to generate explanations. Anthropic processes the word and sentence in accordance with their privacy policy. API inputs are not used to train their models.
Data storage
The extension stores a single preference locally on your device using Chrome's storage API:
- Whether the extension is enabled or disabled (on/off toggle)
Recent explanations are cached in your browser's memory for performance. This cache is automatically cleared when you navigate away or close the tab. Nothing is written to disk.
Permissions
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage to save your on/off preference
- activeTab to read text you select on the current page
The extension only activates when you select text. It does not read or access any page content in the background.
Children's privacy
The extension is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
Changes to this policy
If we update this privacy policy, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
